Danske Jutevarer awarded Closing Loops grant for circular jute packaging
We’re proud to share that Danske Jutevarer ApS has been awarded funding under Closing Loops for our sustainable product development project.
This recognition marks an important milestone in our mission to replace plastic packaging with renewable, recyclable jute fibre- a “future fibre” that captures CO₂ as it grows.
What is Closing Loops?
Closing Loops is a national programme funded by the EU Regional Fund and the Danish Business Promotion Board. It supports Danish SMEs that develop circular value chains—turning waste into resources and helping reduce CO₂ emissions across industries. The programme is run by Food & Bio Cluster Denmark together with several industry clusters and the Technological Institute.
Our project aims to reduce waste and CO2e for Circular Value Chains
The project brings together a strong group of Danish partners- Haack Recycling ApS, ROCKWOOL Danmark A/S, Bygma A/S and ARD Group ApS- to develop, test, and recycle an industrial-scale version of our jute packaging solution.
Why jute matters
Unlike plastic, jute is a renewable plant fibre. It grows in just 120 days, needs little water, and improves soil health. One hectare of jute plants can absorb up to 15 tons of carbon dioxide and release 11 tons of oxygen in a single growing season, which is approximately 100-120 days. This rapid carbon sequestration makes jute a highly effective crop for mitigating climate change. By introducing jute packaging, we can prevent plastic waste and achieve a net carbon reduction per year when fully scaled.
Looking ahead
This project is more than product innovation—it’s a step towards a more circular future. Together with our partners, we aim to make Denmark a hub for bio-based industrial packaging and set an example for responsible collaboration across value chains.
We thank Food & Bio Cluster Denmark and the Closing Loops programme for supporting our vision, and we look forward to sharing our progress as the project unfolds.
