Sustainability at Danske Jutevarer
Sustainability at Danske Jutevarer ApS
At Danske Jutevarer, sustainability is the foundation of our business. Since 2023, we have transparently reported on our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance, continually keeping carbon accounts on klimakompasset. Our dedication involves actively investing in renewable materials, improving supply chain transparency, and creating positive social impacts through responsible business practices.
Environmental Commitment
Renewable Natural Materials
Our products are made from jute, a sustainable and renewable natural fibre extracted from jute plants grown without pesticides. Jute cultivation significantly sequesters carbon, making our products carbon-negative. Each ton of raw jute fibre captures approximately 4.88 tons of CO₂ during its growth cycle, directly reducing global CO₂ levels.
Carbon Footprint
In 2024, our operations emitted just 0.61 tons of CO₂ through fertilization and fibre processing, while jute cultivation significantly offset these emissions. Our air freight operations accounted for 9.2 tons of CO₂ emissions, an area we actively aim to improve by transitioning more shipments to ocean freight, potentially cutting emissions by up to 96%.
Zero Pollution Impact
Jute products from Danske Jutevarer are fully biodegradable, ensuring zero pollution impact on land and aquatic ecosystems. Our products naturally enhance soil quality, acting as environmentally friendly alternatives to synthetic materials and plastics.
Social Responsibility
Community and Economic Impact
Jute cultivation positively influences the rural economy, notably in Bangladesh, where about one-fourth of the population is linked to the jute industry. Our business directly supports this community, promoting economic stability and growth.
Empowering Women
We prioritize social responsibility when selecting our production partners. Currently, 65% of our partner’s workforce is comprised of women, fostering empowerment and poverty alleviation through meaningful employment opportunities.
Health and Safety
The safety of our workers is paramount. We partner with facilities certified to ISO-45001 standards for occupational health and safety and conduct regular on-site inspections to maintain ethical practices and prevent child labour.
Governance and Ethical Business Practices
Quality Assurance
Danske Jutevarer maintains a stringent three-layer quality control system, including production stage checks, pre-shipment inspections, and final evaluations at our warehouse in Køge, Denmark. Our processes involve independent quality verification by external textile engineers and global standards certifications from SGS International.
Reliable and Consistent Supply
We ensure reliable and consistent supply by sourcing exclusively from Bangladesh, renowned globally for its jute quality and production capabilities. Our strategic partnerships with specialized production facilities secure our ability to meet market demands reliably.
Transparent Organizational Structure
Initially founded as a sole proprietorship, Danske Jutevarer ApS has grown into an international enterprise under Danske-natur Holding ApS. Our structure is designed to balance economic growth and environmental stewardship effectively.
